Playing on Artificial Grass
Ever wondered why your game is great on some court surfaces yet you struggle on others?
Here are a few tips to improve your game on a faster surface like the artificial grass courts we have at our club:
shorten your swing!
The courts are faster than traditional hard courts so the ball comes through lower and faster .... if you find your taking the ball late, try shortening your backswing to keep your point of contact in front of your body.
Slice can be useful!
Slice is a very effective shot on a fast surface, the ball stays low and skids quickly after the bounce .... practice and use your slice shot on the artificial grass
Volleys Work!
Because of the low bounce and fast court, hitting passing shots can be harder.... when you get that short ball, move forward and take a good position at the net and make your opponent play that difficult shot ! A good slice approach shot will let you get closer to the net and make it tough for your opponent!
Slice Serve!
Fast flat serves are a great weapon, but how many times do you make them? A good slice serve on artificial grass will do just as much damage. By slicing your serve well, you can make the ball and your opponent move out of the court and create space to hit your next shot into....
Hitting behind your opponent!
Ever noticed, that on artificial grass, stopping and changing direction at speed can be difficult? A great way to win points is by hitting wide to your opponent and as they are recovering at speed, hit back to the same place.
Learn to move efficiently!
When you get time, learn to master the art of sliding. When you can slide into a hitting position, it will allow you to recover more quickly and keep you in the point, especially when defending !
